To the love of my life. I strive to be a better person when I'm with you. It's like a perpetual first date.

The In-Laws
From what I've heard In-Laws can be a make or break deal in a relationship. Fortunate for me the In-Laws are a unique collection of personlities, all of which make it easy to love each one of them. Nicole's father and wife Sue are visiting this week. Unlike some of my past experiences with old girlfriends, hanging with Nicole's parents is a fun experience that we enjoy every second of. It's not often a guy can say that with absolute certainty. When you marry your partner, you marry the family. So you'd better be damn sure you get it right the first time.

Superhuman Powers
Nicole has done some amazing things in her short life so far. She gradutated flight school, found her first aviation job and continues to improve her already fantastic set of piloting skills. But my personal favorite is her making me realize that i'm still a good person. Not that I ever really thought that I was a "bad" person. But she brought me back from the brink of living a miserable existance. You know that being a good person takes work. It doesn't always come naturally, but she made me realize that I should never lose hope about a situation. I hate to say it but you guys out there if you find the right girl you always end up marrying someone like your mother. God I hate to admit it but it's true.
My mother is one of the most fantastic women I have ever known. Strong and supportive in every way. Nicole is just the same. My sisters are no different. I have 4 of the most fantastic women in my life and I wouldn't change a thing about any of them.
Somewhere along the way for various reasons I lost track of the good things that I hold dear to me. But we're back on track now and life is on the up and up. Thanks to the love of my life, I feel like, maybe, just maybe i'll turn out to be that good person I always imagined.

What's going on at work
Ever wonder what your spouse is doing at work? Well I have the inside scoop. Nicole and I are pilots at the same company. While I wait at home for her to be finished her day I often have a peak at what the weather is doing in the north. But on days like today, I sometimes wish I didn't look. The summer season is also known as "Thunderstorm Season" by pilots. When they hit, it tends to be all at once. Understanding the stress and severity of thunderstorms in avitaion, makes it that much worse knowing your best frend is out there battling their way through trying to get home safe. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. She did make it home safe and sound. We shared stories of the days events and then head to bed and do it all again tommorow. Sometimes I think working an office job would be the way to go, but being a pilot has the best stroies of all.

Small reminders
It seems to me that the saying "you don't know what you've got until it's gone" is a pretty important and powerful message. As with any person in aviation, being at home for more than a few weeks at a time can be a rare thing. As pilots both Nicole and I travel for work. It takes us away from home fairly often and can a difficult thing to manage. However, being apart I find really makes me appreciate all of the greatness that she has to offer. I'm not only talking about the physical stuff, but the emotional support she offters as well.
If you're in the same loop of being home every single night with your partner, how about planning time to be away from him or her? If they went away to see family or just have some alone time. Let me tell you it makes a huge difference having pesonal time and to refect on what isn't there when they're gone. Sometimes it even helps you figure out if that other person is even right for you at all. The benefits and rewards when they return it the most wonderful thing in the world.

A moment to reflect
While away in Panama, I proposed to Nicole. Fortunately she said yes! Underneath a large tree next to the Pacific ocean I read to you in front of your family a poem. It had taken me a while to figure out how to ask you to marry me in a special way. Then I had the lightbulb go off inside my head. In the middle of the night I woke up from our cozy bed in our beachside room and sat outside on the balcony thinking of all the wonderful moments we've shared so far. I know you've written many poems, but have a difficult time sharing them with others. But you did share them with me. So in turn I opened up my soul and shared with you and your family how I felt.
This was not only to profess my love for you. But to show you how I am willing to jump beyond myself to give you what you need out of life. This poem is to show you that being open to others about what we feel is okay. No matter what anyone else thinks, I love you for you.
This is your poem.
MARRY ME! - May 26, 2008
From shore to shore we spread our wings
We've built special times and seen special things
But I'm hopeful for more times like this indeed
With family and friends and moments like these
You see, it's not only you, but your family too
That makes us fit like a foot in a shoe
So as the saying goes, if the shoe fits wear it
And I love both my shoes now, the kids and the parents
From the moment I met you, you were something incredible
By far the most soothing, poetic, loving and gentle
I will never give up my moments like this
They are locked in my mind like your sweet gentle kiss
So Nicole my love before I ask you this question
Are you ready to jump in and learn all of lifes lessons?
Are you ready to be number one on my list?
To be my wife and have lots of kids?
I hope you say yes because it's such a nice ring
Nicole Lalonde, you're the best damn thing!
I love you sweetheart!

To the love of my life
Back in December of 2007 as a Christmas present to my then girlfriend Nicole I started writing a daily journal that recorded all of my thoughts about our relationship. 8 months later it's been a big success and I continue to write small notes about how much of a positive impact she has been in my life.
Below is the first entry made in her book on December 24, 2008
Dear Nicole,
Everyday that passes I learn just how fortunate we are to have crossed each others path. This book is dedicated to you. Everyday I am home or away thoughts of you will spill onto these pages. Small, tall, long or short. Every word will represent my love for you.
Feel safe and secure knowing that someone loves you as unconditionally as I do.
Love always,
David
That's what this is all about. Instead of holding those ideas in a book for only one to see, I will share those same moments of joy with the rest of the world. For you men (or women) who sometimes have trouble communicating with your partner. I recommend taking on the same task as I have. Write your thoughts out and share them with the one person you need to talk to the most.
